Moroccans are spread abroad across a hundred countries. Europe welcomes the largest Moroccan community abroad.

About 5.5 million Moroccans live abroad according to our latest research. 85 percent of them have chosen to settle in Europe. The rest live in North America, Africa and the Middle East.

In the Arab world, 6.4 percent of Moroccans living abroad live, compared to 2.6 percent in America. The rest reside in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.

France has the largest Moroccan community abroad with 1.25 million people. This is followed by Spain with 880,000 Moroccans, of which 220,000 were given Spanish nationality. Belgium is third with 700,000 Moroccans, of which 460,000 have dual nationality.

Belgium also has 300 Moroccan doctors and 350 engineers in various sectors. In the European country there are also 30 MPs of Moroccan origin, as well as 9 federal parliamentarians and 100 municipal councillors, including 2 mayors and 20 deputy mayors.

Integration into European society

The second and third generation Moroccans are better integrated in Europe than, for example, Turkish, Syrians or Chinese peers, various reports showed. Moroccans speak Dutch better than these groups. This can be explained by the fact that there are no mass media available in Moroccan Arabic and Berber and no use of their own dialect, while Turks, Syrians and Chinese make full use of media and the internet in their own language. According to experts, this means that problems are more likely to express themselves outside one's own social circle.
